Congratulations – the EPCC sounds really well on the cd. Seems that the chief conductor Daniel
Reuss wishes to achieve the choir sound more similar to West-European more clear sound, and he
has achieved it, although on account of the EPCC’s well-known darker sound. This darker sound
could be more heard in the Cyrillus Kreek’s sacred songs, the language and traditions play here their
role. The greatest value of this album is Kreek’s productions, because if Felix Mendelssohn’s large scale
demanding choral productions have been more performed and recorded, then Kreek’s songs can’t be heard too
frequently (not on the cd-s neither on the stage) even in Estonia. For me the greatest pleasure was to listen
to Kreek’s 5 religious folk songs, from which miniature «Jeesus kõige ülem hää» touches the depth of the soul.
